Paint doesn't fix a crack, it just shows you where it is again in a year. Stucco splits from settling and heat cycling, and drywall gets dinged, dented, or water-damaged long before it needs a repaint — either one left unaddressed is why some paint jobs look bad again fast.

We patch and texture-match stucco so the repair doesn't read as a repair, and we cut out, float, and sand drywall damage back to a flat, paint-ready surface. This is usually paired with an interior or exterior repaint, but we'll take on repair work on its own if that's all the job needs.

How do I know if I need stucco & drywall repair?

Most cracks are cosmetic. A few are telling you something else, and knowing the difference matters.

Usually routine:

  • Hairline cracks at the corners of windows and doors.
  • Fine cracking along control joints.
  • Small nail pops and dents on interior walls.

Worth having properly assessed:

  • Cracks that are visibly widening over months.
  • Long diagonal cracks running across a wall.
  • Cracking with staining, dampness or efflorescence around it.
  • Horizontal cracking in block or masonry.

We are painters, not structural engineers. If what we find looks like more than a surface issue, we will tell you to get the right person in rather than filling it and painting over the top.

How do you approach stucco & drywall repair?

Finding out why it cracked

A hairline crack at a window corner is normal settlement in Valley stucco. A widening crack, one that runs diagonally across a wall, or staining around it can mean something else is going on. We will tell you which one you appear to have — and if it looks structural we will say to get it properly assessed rather than papering over it.

Opening the crack before filling it

A crack has to be opened out before it is filled, or the repair sits on the surface and reopens along the same line. Done properly the repair is bonded into the wall rather than smeared across it.

Matching the texture

Matching existing stucco texture is the difference between a repair you cannot find and a patch that is obvious from the street once the paint is on. It is a skill more than a product, and it is the part most often rushed.

Drywall inside

Nail pops, dents, anchor holes and water-damaged sections get cut back, repaired, and texture-matched to the surrounding wall before priming. Interior texture matching is the same principle as exterior — get it wrong and every repair shows in side lighting.

Priming repairs before painting

Fresh repairs absorb paint differently to the surrounding surface. Without priming, repaired areas flash through the finish coat as visibly duller or shinier patches.

What goes wrong when it's done cheaply

The two failures we see most are repairs made on the surface without opening the crack, which reopen along the original line within a season, and repairs that were never texture matched, which stay visible forever under the new paint.

How long does stucco & drywall repair take?

Repair work is usually measured against the painting job it precedes rather than on its own. Extensive stucco repair can add meaningfully to an exterior schedule, which is exactly why it is assessed at the walkthrough rather than discovered mid-job.

How does getting a quote work?

We come and look at the property, then give you a real number for a defined scope of work. The walkthrough is free and there is no obligation.

What happens on the visit:

  1. We walk the whole property with you, including the parts people forget — fascia, eaves, gates, walls and outbuildings.
  2. We tell you what preparation your house actually needs, and what it does not. If something is not worth doing, we say so.
  3. You get a written scope: what is included, how many coats, and what is not in the price.
  4. If HOA approval applies, we quote from your community's approved palette.

We do not give firm prices over the phone. Anyone who does is either padding heavily to cover what they cannot see, or planning to raise it once the work starts.

Common questions about stucco & drywall repair

Are the cracks in my stucco serious?

Hairline cracking around window corners and along control joints is common and usually cosmetic. Cracks that are widening, running diagonally across a wall, or accompanied by staining are worth having properly assessed. We are painters, not structural engineers — if it looks like more than a surface issue we will tell you to get the right person in.

Can you just paint over the cracks?

You can, and it is a false economy. Paint bridges a crack for a while, then splits along it, and in the meantime moisture is getting behind the coating. Repairing first is the difference between a job that lasts and one that looks good for a season.

Will the repair be visible?

Not if the texture is matched properly and the repair is primed before painting. Visible patches under fresh paint are a texture-matching failure, not an inevitability.

Do you fix water damage on interior drywall?

We repair the drywall, but the leak has to be fixed first by whoever is responsible for it. Repairing wet drywall before the source is dealt with just means doing it twice.

Is repair included in an exterior painting quote?

Repairs are quoted as part of the job rather than added afterwards. That is the point of the walkthrough — we would rather find the work up front than surprise you with it.
